2020’s achievements

As I always do at the end of a year, I’m writing this post is to celebrate the year just gone and highlight my personal accomplishments. I think the biggest achievement for 2020 though, is that we made it through. It’s been without doubt the strangest and scariest of years, and I am so pleased that I actually have some positive accomplishments and memories from it.

Despite all the restrictions, we still managed to do quite a few things (especially during summer when measures weren’t as strict) including:

>> a small gathering on Mortlake Green for Polly’s 5th birthday
>> a late party at home for Tabitha’s 7th birthday
>> a week in Biddulph in July
>> a long weekend in Clacton in August
>> a few days in Edinburgh at the end of summer
>> Nana Margaret’s 70th birthday get-together
>> Six nights in Cyprus during half term

I stopped recording my exercise stats sometime during the first lockdown, however I remain quite consistent in what I do each week. This is usually 3 river runs and 1 exercise class/gym visit (when its open), plus a bit of cycling when it’s not too muddy.

Weight at start of year: 10.9

Weight at end of year: 10.8

During the year my recorded weight reached a high of 10.13 and a low of 10.7. I’d love to get it down well below 10.7 to nearer 10 stone, however realistically I can’t see that ever happening without significantly changing what I eat (which I’m fairly strict with anyway). So I think my goal weight for next year is 10.7. if I can get to and stay at that, I will be happy!

Writing with the aim of getting published is certainly a rollercoaster of emotions. There have been a lot of low moments in my writing journey this year, but lots of highs too:

>> Honourable mentions in Valentiny, 50 Precious Words and Spring Fling contests
>>Longlisted for Write Mentor Picture Book competition
>> Started the Writing Magazine children’s writers course, tutored by Amy Sparkes, plus a couple of one off workshops
>>Came FIRST PLACE in the Writers’ Weekend Picture Book competition (which won me £500 and an agent Zoom call)

>>Finished my GEA course
>>Started to get some personalised responses from agents including an R&R which is still being considered

As we go into 2021, Covid restrictions are as bad as ever. We are in tier 4 and have just found out schools in our area won’t be reopening straight away. It’s very hard to feel positive with all that is going on, but hopefully after a difficult start, 2021 will turn out to be a good one.
