So long Sheen Lane

So, after many months of will it happen / won’t it happen, we finally exchanged contracts on a three bed house last Wednesday. In five days time we move four roads along to Fitzgerald Road. I’m so excited about moving to a house – it’s been about 15 years since I last lived in one and even that was a student house share. We’ll have a bit of a garden, two toilets, enough bedrooms for the girls to not have to share and even a dishwasher! Plus, we’ll still be close to the school and everything we know.

Of course, leaving Sheen Lane behind is very sad. We have loved this flat and will miss it a lot (although definitely not being surrounded on all sides by neighbours). This was the home we bought 12-day-old Tabitha to, and where Polly has lived her entire life. It’s where the girls took their first steps and spoke their first words. It’s the first home we’ve ever owned.

The fabulous view of the park is the biggest thing I’ll miss. Watching the changing seasons, from the bare branches of Winter, to the glorious pink and white blossom in Spring, the greenness of Summer and then the striking orange of Autumn. And, oh, some of the sunsets have been spectacular! Being able to cross the road and be inside the park has also been amazing, as has running back home for wee emergencies. And I don’t think we could have wished for a better school run!

I’ll be very glad to get away from the busy road and traffic pollution though. Our new house is on a cul-de-sac, so it will be unusually peaceful. We are in the midst of packing up our belongings at the moment, although I don’t think it’s quite sunk in that we’re leaving. The girls are very excited though. Hopefully they will continue to be excited once we’re in and not find it too overwhelming or disruptive.

The end of an era!
